American Elderberry

As our region continues to rebuild after Hurricane Helene, we will have live stakes available for purchase at this years sale. A live stake is a dormant plant cutting that should take root when pushed into suitable soil. Live stakes are the most efficient way to restore streambanks and prevent further erosion on steep slopes.

American Elderberry are native and a great shrub for erosion control or in low lying areas. The berries attract birds and other beneficial wildlife. Many gardeners may try their hand at making jams and preserves as well. These shrubs can grow 5-12′ tall and wide. They are best grown when massed together in full sun or part shade.
