Merlot

If you love redbuds, but are looking for a smaller tree, then the merlot could be the perfect fit. This hybrid produces the classic pink blooms in the spring, followed by shiny purple leaves that fade to green throughout summer. The merlot redbud prefers full sun to part shade and can grow to be 9-12′ tall and 10-15′ wide. This variety is more heat and drought tolerants than other redbuds. The spring blooms attract bees and butterflies, making it a great addition to any pollinator garden.
